Celebrity Infinity

It's been quiet in Guernsey recently as the season starts to slow down and the cruise liner visits get less, however this week sees visits of the regulars. The Celebrity Infinity arrived this morning from Le Havre on a 14 night cruise around the British Isles. This is her last visit of the season, and in early October she will head over to the other side of the Atlantic. Once there she will cruise the Caribbean, journey through the Panama three times, then head down to South America, and in December sail eastbound around Cape Horn, a well traveled ship!

The liner had some company in St Peter Port today with the luxury yacht Leopard 3.  Her website describes her as a "luxurious signature charter yacht, a passage record breaker and a race winning super maxi yacht." The mast is 47 metres tall and can carry 15,000 square feet of sail. Her next major event is the world renowned "Les Voiles de St Tropez" in late September.

Celebrity Infinity

On another ' Round the British Isles ' cruise the Celebrity Infinity arrived at St Peter Port this morning, having left Harwich two days ago.  There were few queues for guests, with Sark Shipping providing the Bon Marin and the Sark Venture for tendering operations as well as the liners own tenders.

It was a busy scene outside the harbour this afternoon with the Celebrity Infinity getting ready to sail, Condor Express coming in on her way north to Poole, as well as the yellow Bumble Bee coming in from a South Coast cruise before leaving for Alderney.

With the pilot on board the liner leaves the anchorage bound for Cobh whilst the St Peter Port pilot boat follows ready to take the pilot off. One of the more famous items on the liner is in one of the restaurants, glass paneling from the US liner United States.  This liner took the Blue Riband from the Queen Mary for the fastest crossing of the Atlantic.

Celebrity Infinity

Another cruise heading for the Irish Sea saw the Celebrity Infinity staying until 4.00pm, quite a long day's stay given the latest fashion for half day visits. Sark Shipping supplied two of their ferries to act as tenders thus keeping down the queues of guest wishing to return early to the ship. The old, narrow streets on the south side of St Peter Port gives glimpses of the liner at anchor.

With the anchor aweigh and the Guernsey pilot on board, the Golden Spur leads the Celebrity Infinity towards the Lower Heads buoy off Guernsey's south east corner , on her way to the next port of call, Cobh, in Southern Ireland.

The Celebrity Infinity built in 2001, can carry 2,500 guests and is one of the Millennium Class ships of Celebrity Cruises. She will be in Guernsey for two more visits this summer and will re-position to the Caribbean in October, as well as visiting the Antarctic early in 2015

Summer continues in Guernsey with another hot sunny day, only the mist that persists over the calm sea is not welcome as the liner fades into the distance. The Celebrity Infinity visited today as part of its 11 night cruise around the British Isles originating in Harwich, before continuing to Cobh and then Waterford. The Sark Venture comes alongside as the Bon Marin heads back to St Peter Port with guests aboard.

The Herm Trident is full even after Bank Holiday Monday as she leaves on a late morning departure for Herm, taking her passengers for a close up view of the liner, on the short 20 minute ride. There are plenty of visiting yachts still in Guernsey waters taking advantage of the weather whilst it lasts.

The Celebrity Infinity employed the services of Sark Shipping with both the Bon Marin and the Sark Venture being used as tenders. Despite the two ferries and the liners own tenders queues built up as her mid afternoon departure became imminent.

7th August 2013 and then there were 3

After the past few sunny days it was wiping the rain off the lens this morning as the Celebrity Infinity and Ocean Princess arrived from Le Havre and Dover respectively. Both are on cruises around the British Isles with only the Infinity putting into a port on mainland England, the Ocean Princess staying with Ireland and Scotland. The pilot boat, Golden Spur, having put the pilot on board the Ocean Princess, heads for the anchorage.

The Ocean Princess was renamed from Tahitian Princess, rather more exotic sounding than its current name. Celebrity Infinity was launched in 2001 and in the United Kingdom is based at Harwich. Both were on the anchorage before 8.00am ready for their guests to enjoy the rather soggy day in Guernsey.

Then there were three liners off St Peter Port. The MSC Opera arrived from Ijmuiden on one of her regular visits on the way to the Iberian peninsula with some "nose in parking".

Condor Express on her approach to St Peter Port from the north gave her passengers a good look at the Ocean Princess and the MSC Opera as she manoeuvred her way around the many tenders operating at the time.

Snowy does not seem too interested in the Celebrity Infinity. Perhaps he is thinking about the parma ham roll he will have a bit of for lunch, as well as the walk exploring all the angles on three liners.
